New York Comic-Con 2025

Building a street-level Marvel experience in the heart of New York
The Audience
The Challenge

My role was to design two of the most vital components that would back the entire merchandise section. The original idea was to create a simple space that highlighted a halloween dressed character but once handed over to our internal team it sparked the new vision of continuing the slice of NYC. While the exterior would replicate a gritty rooftop the merch booth would replicate a sleek modern rooftop pop-up.
Previous years we had stuck to the Marvel Unlimited app galaxy background and highlighting our exclusive event items.

Our Inspiration
The Retail Experience

To continue the rooftop pop-up theme I was tasked to extend the same aesthetic used to create the retail space onto a functioning menu of items and deals we would be offering, including many sets of pins, exclusive comics and our priority purchase, the Marvel Unlimited exclusive bundle. To differentiate the membership deal but keep the design cohesive the iconic Marvel Unlimited blue that was once used for their galaxy background was the incorporated on the chalk board texture.
The menu would keep itself consistent with the typography used within the Marvel walls and to make better use of the space, large scale versions of the exclusive comics would be displayed as art along the wall behind the counter.

Extending the Experience

Marvel branding goes beyond the event itself. Many emails are sent leading up to the event. Two variations to consider when contacting our users are, are they new potential subscribers or one of the three subscription tiers. Within the email we can be more specific with our messaging to each user. This year was very fun as the pass given to our premium plus and regular subscribers was based off the NYC metro card to give even visiting attendees a taste of the NYC commuter life.
